sheep/Thorahead.jpg

WPW EWE B3P Polled black badgerface single ewe (from a ewe lamb). Born April 24, 2008. 4 lbs., 5 oz. 45.3% AI blood (Askur, Bassi, Dalur, Dimon, Dropi, Heli, Hnykill, Hunn, Skreppur). Carries moorit and solid.   Thora has extremely fine, soft wool.  Accidentally bred in 2009 to Klaki, she had a July 9th lamb.  Traditionally late season lambs don't seem to do as well during the heat of the summer, but her ewe lamb, Millie, sailed through the heat of summer and parasite season with ease.  Thora was an excellent first-time mother, lambing unassisted in our far south pasture.  She came home with her lamb that evening with the rest of the flock.  You just have to love these sheep!   She has a lambing record of (1,2,2).

sheep/Mariahead.jpg

Maria has a beautiful black and white spotting pattern with thick, lustrous, long, soft wool.  She is the daughter of Bjork and AI ram Langlidalur.  She may carry moorit, and should have excellent milking and fleece genetics from both her mother and father.  Maria is very long bodied and shows outstanding meat characteristics from her father.  We're thrilled to have her in our ewe flock.  Maria was bred to Valur for 2010 lambs and had a perfect set of twins.  She was an excellent first-time mom, lots and lots of milk.
She has many AI bloodlines: Langlidalur, Thokki, Dalur, Hynkill, Flekkur, Flotti, Skreppur, Butur.  An excellent ewe, consistantly producing high quality offspring.

sheep/Sept10Sheep20161.jpg

Millie, a lightly line-bred ewe, is truly outstanding.  Being born late, (July 9th) she sailed through the heat of the summer with excellent parasite and heat resistance.  She was born far out in the woods and walked with her mother all the way home with the rest of the flock that same evening.  Her mother, Thora was an excellent first-time mom with a lot of milk so Millie grew very fast and has caught up with the rest of the spring lamb crop.  Her sire is Klaki, son of our Freyja and Preston, the 2005 National Champion Icelandic Ram.  Millie was not bred for 2010 due to her age, but was bred to Dakota for 2011 lambs and gave us twin ram lambs.  Her AI bloodlines include: Arfi, Dimon, Askur, Bassi, Dalur, Dropi, Heli, Buri, Hnykill, Hunn, Skreppur

Sept10Sheep083.jpg

sheep/Sept10Sheep0841.jpg

Flóka is a daughter of Freyja and Valur and was a triplet.  She is moorit grey and had a lovely, long, thick and soft fleece.  She sailed through summer with no issues and is a great addition to our flock.  She has AI bloodlines of Dimon, Eir, Heli, Askur, Skreppur and Hunn.  Flóka had a single grey mouflon ewe lamb in 2011 and was an excellent mother with milk to spare.

Margret

sheep/June1lambs11080.jpg

What you can expect from Icelandic sheep?  Expect the unexpected!  It will happen to everyone at some point, due to their breeding history, crossing polled and horned Icelandic sheep for the last 1100 years you can expect polled from horned parents and horned form polled parents.   Margret is a very nice sized ewe lamb, she has very good conformation, nice wool and great meaty build.  Her sire, AI ram, Langidalur has excellent meat and milking scores, so we are expecting great things from her.

Hrafin

AI Langidalur granddaughter.  She carries strong dairy lines, so sould be an excellent dairy prospect.  Long, silky, luxuriant black wool and meaty.  Langidalur has been known to throw the occasional horned lamb.  This ewe has a very lovely set of horns and very nice overall conformation. Very friendly.

These are really great lambs from Freyja as all of hers are, but these are really outstanding.  Raftur, is known to be the best ram ever at Southram in Iceland.  It will be worth  waiting a generation or to to eliminate the horns to have such great meat genetics in the flock.  Both brother and sister will stay.

Soft, thick gray fleece.  Should be a good dairy prospect and very meaty.

Rams to be Used in 2011

Click Here to View AI Sires

We purchased two outstanding rams in August and made the decision this breeding season to not do AI.  We will instead be giving the jobs to our farm rams Valur, Dakota and Heracles to help bring back the colour to our flock.  They carry excellent AI bloodlines and all have great builds so we expect some colourful, pattered lambs with great fleeces next spring without having to sacrifice on their meat qualities.  We will resume our AI breeding program in the fall of 2010.

sheep/HSValor.jpg

Valur is a single ram lamb out of Nanna and the last son of our AI Heli ram 198L "Big Boy".  He is 25.00% Heli, and 12.50% Askur for a total of 37.50% AI bloodlines.  He has an amazing amount of medium-soft, silvery moorit fleece, large meaty frame, well rounded leg muscles, long back, and has excellent harmony.  He is a very dominate ram in the ram pen, but has a  very gentle disposition and is easy to work with.

sheep/monalamb079.jpg

Dakota was a single lamb, born April 14, 2007.  He is a black mouflon patterned ram with many AI sires in his back ground, Dalur, Flekkur, Heli, Hynkill, and Broddi to name a few.  He is broad and muscular with a thick, beautiful black fleece with flashes of white, he carries spotting as well as moorit.

WPW Ram Bjarni

sheep/Sept10Sheep0951.jpg

Sept10Sheep101.jpg

Bjarni, is a moorit grey triplet by Valur and Freyja.  Large, meaty build, this boy is thick everywhere.  Mom and Dad both very meaty and excellent milk genetics.  Freyja delivered and raised all three lambs with no assistance, that's that kind of ewes you want in ewe flock.   Looking forward to seeing his first 2011 lamb crop.

Yes, I know, HORNS!  It was so worth it.

Oskar

Perfect dark moorit badgerface pattern, soft silky wool with perfect meaty conformation.  This ram has strong dairy genetics, wool and meat. He's staying for now, but may become available later in the season.
